Don Melchor 2018 presented to Wine Spectator

On February 19, Enrique Tirado, general manager of Don Melchor winery, presented via Zoom the 2018 vintage to Kim Marcus, editor and chief taster for South America of the prestigious American magazine Wine Spectator.

In this meeting, Enrique Tirado spoke about Don Melchor’s history, how the idea of making Chile’s icon Cabernet Sauvignon was born, and what has always been the objective: respect for the origin and expression of the vineyard through the wine. Tirado also talked about the production process of Don Melchor and how, from the beginning, he travels every year to Médoc to join the Boissenot family to define the final blend.

About the 2018 vintage, Enrique told how special this vintage turned out to be, since thanks to the weather conditions and the phenomenal human team working, it was an unprecedented harvest and a final wine that faithfully expresses the influence of the Andes Mountains, its stony soils, and its climate.

“Exceptional climatic conditions, alluvial soils of the vineyard’s volcanic origin that allow good drainage and low fertility, and indispensable elements such as the human team and vines made it possible to have this amazing vintage we have now,” said Tirado.
