In a distinguished evening, accompanied by fine vocalists and strings from the Teatro Colón, Don Melchor 2018 was presented in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to wine journalists from the local market, distinguished sommeliers, and important customers.
After a reception in the embassy gardens, Nicolás Monckeberg, Chile’s ambassador to Argentina, Marcos Jofré, CEO of Trivento, and Enrique Tirado, CEO and winemaker of Viña Don Melchor, kicked off the event, which consisted of understanding more about the 2017 and 2018 vintages thanks to a menu pairing both wines.
Renowned Argentine chef Martin Molteni took on the challenge of creating the flavors and textures for each dish. Opera accompanied the wines, performed by the quartet of the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, La Gala Lírica.
Don Melchor 2017 was served with a rendition of “Champagne, the King of Wines” from The Bat by J. Strauss ll and a quail stuffed with spinach along with roasted onions, cardoon boletus, turnip, and cardamom glaze.
Don Melchor 2018, the great protagonist of the evening, was accompanied by a lyrical rendition of “Viva il vino spumeggiante” from Cavalleria Rusticana by P. Mascagni and served with braised lamb rack with roasted fennel juices accompanied by bouchon potatoes and smoked eggplant puree.
The dessert, deliciously creamy chocolate and bitter hazelnut moon with toffee cream drops, milk chocolate, and passion fruit, was the perfect pairing for Don Melchor.
Guests concluded an evening of celebration, with interpretations of “Libiamo ne’ lieti calici” from La Traviata, by G. Verdi, “Gracias a la Vida” by Violeta Parra, among others.
“The Argentine consumer has a great interest in Don Melchor’s style of wine, and in turn a broad knowledge. In addition, the scarce offer of top-of-the-range wines from other origins generates a special attraction for this knowledgeable public. This places Argentina in the top ten of the most important markets for Don Melchor,” said Enrique Tirado.
