For more than 20 years, winemaker Enrique Tirado has been one of the most influential figures in Chilean winemaking, leading Don Melchor to new heights of excellence and prestige. His passion and commitment have led to Don Melchor being recognized as the first Chilean icon wine, and a reference for Cabernet Sauvignon worldwide. Since assuming the responsibility of General Manager in 2019, Enrique has used his depth of experience and knowledge to lead Viña Don Melchor towards even greater levels of winemaking distinction.
“Don Melchor is for me the constant search for the best expression of each of the vines within the vineyard, in order to achieve the beauty of the balance of the terroir of Puente Alto in each vintage. That is my true obsession. I use technology as a tool to achieve greater knowledge, but with this, observing and feeling each plant and wine is what allows us to achieve the perfect balance in each vintage.”

Even since Don Melchor was founded in 1987, Enrique has worked hand-in-hand with respected French advisor Jacques Boissenot, consultant to the renowned Châteaux de Bordeaux. It is his son Eric Boissenot who now carried on his father’s legacy, collaborating with Enrique to craft Don Melchor wine. As the Technical Director and CEO, Enrique works to make Don Melchor Cabernet Sauvignon a reference for excellence around the world, reaching the loftiest heights of the wine industry. His passion and love for this land continue to help him make Don Melchor the finest expression of a magnificent Chilean terroir, Puente Alto.
