Enrique Tirado recently spoke about Don Melchor 2020's recognition in the global luxury magazine Robb Report. The wine was selected among the “Best of the Best Wines of the World”. Tirado also highlighted the wine's origin in Puente Alto and the history behind the iconic Cabernet Sauvignon.

During a program hosted by Cristián Camus and Juan Pablo Larraín, Enrique Tirado, the CEO and Technical Director of Viña Don Melchor, highlighted the significance of receiving recognition from the Robb Report: “This recognition is given to the best wines in the world across different categories based on their origin. Don Melchor was selected as one of the Best of the Best wines in the world, under the category of Spain, Italy, Chile, and France. This is a remarkable achievement that reflects years of hard work and dedication”.

During the interview, Enrique mentioned separating the brand from the Concha y Toro portfolio and creating Viña Don Melchor. According to Enrique, the first vintage of Don Melchor was in 1987, and it has since been a story of many awards and successes, focusing on quality and the pursuit of excellence: “In 2019, the decision was made to create Viña Don Melchor within the Concha y Toro holding company. As a result, the team behind Don Melchor is now exclusively focused on making this wine”.

Enrique mentioned that Don Melchor’s vineyards are on the north bank of the Maipo River. They are located on an alluvial terrace at the base of the Andes Mountains. This unique location plays a crucial role in the success of Don Melchor. “The wine’s origin, referred to as terroir, is significant. The recognition that Don Melchor has achieved is due to its exceptional location in producing Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines”, explains the winemaker.

During the interview, reference was also made to Chile’s image worldwide and how Don Melchor’s recognition boosts the Chilean wine industry. In this regard, Don Melchor’s winemaker emphasized: “The entire history of awards, including the Best of the Best from Robb Report, has been crucial for Don Melchor. Our goal at Don Melchor is to produce the best wine that genuinely reflects our vision. It is a delicate process with a lot of attention to detail. Ultimately, we aim to create each bottle as a treasure, a work of art. This sets a benchmark for the industry and enhances the image of Chile as a country that produces high-quality wines”.
