Vinous spotlighted Don Melchor among Chile’s best wines

The 2019 vintage of Don Melchor earned 96 points, putting it in second place among the top-ranking wines in the report, and the 2020 vintage received a solid 95 points.

Argentine critic Joaquín Hidalgo, who has prepared his report on Chilean wines for the third consecutive year for Vinous, one of the industry’s most respected media on the global level, had nothing but praise for the 2019 and 2020 vintages of Don Melchor in addition to the excellent scores delivered.

With respect to the 2020 Don Melchor, which Hidalgo gave 95 points, he said, “The aromatic profile features red fruit such as cherry and black currant along with hints of mint, spice and pepper over secondary aromas from the aging process, including a gentle whiff of cedar.” He also highlighted its intensity on the palate and emphasized its freshness and young tannins that will integrate with time, adding that “the fruit was especially vivid this year, adding greatly to the nuance and subtle details.”
