Viña Don Melchor welcomes leading wine specialists from England and the United States

Julie Sheppard, Regional Editor of Decanter for Spain, Portugal, and South America, along with Andrew Catchpole, Editor of Harpers Wine & Spirit, and Jamal Rayyis, a Wine & Spirits writer, recently paid a visit to the winery to acquire knowledge about Don Melchor, the iconic wine of the D.O. Puente Alto.

Julie Sheppard and Andrew Catchpole visited the Don Melchor vineyard in Puente Alto on November 21. During their visit, they were given a tour of the vineyard and learned about the soil pit and profile of this iconic vineyard. They were also introduced to the solar vineyard project initiated by the Don Melchor winemaking team in 2018.

During their visit, they went to Casona Don Melchor in Pirque to taste wines with winemaker Sergio Hormazábal. The wines they tasted were Don Melchor 2014, 2020 and 2021 vintages. 

Jamal Rayyis, a writer, editor, and specialized educator, visited Viña Don Melchor on November 28. He visited the Don Melchor vineyard in Puente Alto and saw the Casona. During his visit, he tasted a selection of Don Melchor wines, including vintages from 1988, 2001, 2014, 2020 and 2021, the 35th and last vintage revealed. Enrique Tirado, the CEO and Technical Director of Viña Don Melchor, accompanied him during the tasting.
