The nearly perfect score was delivered by Zekun Shuai, senior editor for JamesSuckling.com, after his visit to Chile to compile material for his upcoming report on Chilean wines.
Along with the 99 points, Zekun Shuai described the 2021 Don Melchor as having “ashy graphite, cassis, iron, blackberries and a hint of cigar box and chocolate. Lots of violets, too. Rich and intense with a full-bodied palate. Showing density and very fine but structured tannins. Long and intense finish with lots of flavors… One of the best over the last few years”.
Zekun Shuai has been a senior editor for the prestigious magazine James Suckling for more than three years and is in charge of tasting the wines from South America.
