Don Melchor and its outstanding performance at Descorchados Brazil

Winemaker Enrique Tirado spoke more in depth about the 2018 vintage, which some consider to have been perfect.

A new version of Descorchados Brasil took place in June. Over two days, experts took part in four tastings daily, trying up to ten wines for each one, with brands from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay.

Concha y Toro participated with its Don Melchor 2018 vintage. The brand’s winemaker, Enrique Tirado, was there to speak more about this vintage which has been described by some as perfect.

This is one of the great vintages in Don Melchor’s history, as it is a very expressive wine, with great personality, with complex hints of small red fruit and floral notes shining through. In the mouth, it is full of flavor, with prevailing elegance and balance as well as a great tannin texture, with a very long and delicate finish.

Given last year’s success, organizers were keen to repeat Descorchados Brasil in 2021. However, given the Covid-19 sanitary restrictions, the event was hybrid with guests and tastings done both in person and via Zoom. Each tasting was conducted in person by the wine guide’s editor, Patricio Tapia, accompanied by the CEO and editor of Inner, Christian Burgos, and the wine editor of Adega magazine, Eduardo Milan. In addition, the chief enologists of each winery participated in the tastings, either in person or online.
