The renowned British Masters of Wine have released the 2024 edition of their annual report on Chilean wines. In this report, the iconic Cabernet Sauvignon from Puente Alto was awarded 93 points, and its innovative project, the Sundial Vineyard, was highlighted.

The 2024 edition of “Wines of the Year,” written by Masters of Wine Susie Barrie and Peter Richards, recently came out, featuring around 100 Chilean labels. With a notable 93 points, Don Melchor 2021 made it onto the select list, where its 35th vintage was positively described by the Masters of Wine as a wine “smooth and fine on the palate, it shows gravelly tannin and a touch of savoury complexity on the finish. Very correct and accomplished.”

The MWs also highlighted the innovative project recently launched by Viña Don Melchor: The Sundial Vineyard.

They’ve just unveiled a new ‘sun-dial’ vineyard in the Don Melchor vineyard in Puente Alto. With rows of vines heading out in straight lines from a central hub in a 360-degree circle, it looks pretty – but it also serves a serious purpose, helping long-term winemaker Enrique Tirado study the effects of sun exposure and row orientation on wine composition. Tirado is a winemaker who pays studious attention to such details, drawing careful conclusions along the way”, commented the Masters of Wine.
