Viña Don Melchor, a subsidiary of Viña Concha y Toro holding, embarks on the global roadshow, “Don Melchor 2021: Celebrates its 35th Vintage” in its leading markets, led by CEO and Technical Director, Enrique Tirado and accompanied by Viña Concha y Toro’s Vice President of Wines, Isabel Guilisasti.
The roadshow was inaugurated in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where Don Melchor has been present since its first vintage—1987—and which is now one of the brand’s most important markets. Over the years Don Melchor has established itself as one of the most prestigious and influential luxury wine brands among Brazilian consumers.
In the latter half of the year the tour will visit several other markets, including the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Chile in the Americas; China, South Korea and other countries in Asia; and lastly England and the Nordic countries in Europe.
“Being able to celebrate this new milestone in Don Melchor’s history fills me with excitement and happiness, as I have witnessed the brand’s markets develop and, like the wine itself, become increasingly solid. Our ability to celebrate Don Melchor in each of these key markets today attests to Don Melchor’s consistently exceptional quality and the greatness of the Puente Alto terroir,” comments Enrique Tirado.
The new 2021 vintage of Don Melchor, the 35th for the wine, is composed of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Merlot, and spent 15 months in French oak barrels, 68% new and 32% second use. “This new vintage of Don Melchor clearly demonstrates the great potential of our unique terroir in the Puente Alto appellation. While it genuinely reflects the vintage’s exceptional climatic conditions and precise agro-ecological management, Don Melchor 2021 also demonstrates the maturity and excellence of an entire team committed to producing a world-class wine. The wine displays the incredibly unique expression of Puente Alto, instantly revealing the perfect balance of energy and finesse in its aromas and flavours,” affirms Tirado.
“We are proud to celebrate 35 vintages of Don Melchor, a wine that has not only brought great satisfaction to the company but has also achieved unparalleled global prestige thanks to the team’s constant quest for excellence and our privilege in stewarding one of the globe’s best terroirs for producing Cabernet Sauvignon. I have witnessed how Don Melchor has achieved its position in the international market, where it has certainly shouldered the tremendous responsibility of positioning Chile as a producer of fine wines—a task that it has accomplished with flying colours. As proof of this, its second vintage in 1988 made Don Melchor the first Chilean label to earn a place among the world’s top 100 wines in Wine Spectator’s prestigious global ranking,” affirms Isabel Guilisasti.
The launch of its 35th vintage is a new milestone in the history of Don Melchor, one that reaffirms its position as a firmly-established brand with global reach that, from its very first vintage, has managed to deliver the best Cabernet Sauvignon from Puente Alto.
