Anthony Gismondi highlights the history of Don Melchor

One of the most important North American wine critics, Anthony Gismondi, published an article in the Vancouver Sun talking about the exemplary history of Don Melchor and even invited other wineries to learn from it.

In the report, he talks about the first time he tried this Cabernet Sauvignon, on a trip to Chile in the early 1990s, which was when learned about Don Melchor Concha y Toro and how he had been introduced to the world of wine when his wife, Emiliana Subercaseaux Vicuña, inherited the family estate in Maipo Valley. Gismondi outlines the most important milestones in the history of Don Melchor, mentioning the different barriers and/or obstacles the winery had to overcome and the decisions it made to get to where it is now. The critic awarded Don Melchor 2017 a score of 94 points, and describes, “The nose is fragrant, with a savory “boldo” dusting that simmer under the ripe black fruit flecked with spice and subtle hints of vanilla. It is a highly lauded vintage, and the result is an equally impressive Cabernet Sauvignon. Not quite Bordeaux and not quite Napa strikes a balance that frankly looks little like British Columbia. Best to hold this through the first five years and be prepared to serve it long past the 10-year mark.”
