In his annual summary of the 10 best wines for winter, Drinkhacker’s founder and editor-in-chief, Christopher Null, declared the 2019 Don Melchor to be the best.
Referring to Don Melchor as “perhaps Chile’s best wine,” Null said he considered the 2019 vintage to be at the top. “The dense chocolate, the vanilla, and the black fruit dispel any sense of excess tannic acid, and it ends with notes of licorice, violets, and lavender on the finish.”
The 2019 vintage of Don Melchor, led by Enrique Tirado, Technical Director and CEO of Viña Don Melchor, is composed of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot, and 1% de Petit Verdot and was aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, 72% new and 28% second use.
