Robinson, a journalist and Master of Wine, said of the wine, “Very subtle, very mineral nose with ripe fruit and tamarind notes. Excellent combo of ripeness and acidity with real restraint and a strong mineral element on the finish. You can almost sense Enrique Tirado hovering over the barrels to ensure that the balance of ripe tannins with flavours, acid and alcohol is just comme il faut. (He trained in Bordeaux.) This is surely restrained Chilean red at its best. So appetising!”
The new vintage of Don Melchor, made under the leadership of Enrique Tirado (Don Melchor CEO and Technical Director) is 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, 1% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot. It was aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, 71% new and 29% second use.
This excellent score for Don Melchor’s most recent vintage reaffirms its position as one of the best Cabernet Sauvignons in the world and recognizes its unique character as a reflection of the Puente Alto terroir.
