Matthew Luczy, who is the new wine critic responsible for tasting South American wines for Robert Parker Wine Advocate, visited Viña Don Melchor to explore one of Chile’s first iconic wines: Don Melchor.
The visit began with a vertical tasting of seven iconic vintages of Don Melchor: 1988, 1996, 2001, 2014, 2020, 2021, and 2022. This experience gave Enrique Tirado, CEO and Technical Director of Viña Don Melchor, the chance to showcase the remarkable winemaking consistency of a wine with over 35 vintages in its history.
“It is an honor for us to welcome Matthew Luczy, the new critic for the region at The Wine Advocate, to the Casona Don Melchor for the first time. Through Don Melchor, we were able to share with him the legacy, history, and origin of the acclaimed Puente Alto appellation, which today gives place to this wine one of the most internationally recognized Cabernet Sauvignons,” said Enrique Tirado.
Afterward, we enjoyed lunch on the Casona’s terrace, prepared by the renowned chef Sergio Barroso of Olam restaurant. He delighted us with a fine dining experience focused on fresh seafood.
To conclude, we presented Matthew Luczy with our innovative project, “The Sundial Vineyard”, an initiative that will allow us to continue advancing sustainability, preserve biodiversity in the vineyard, and face the challenges posed by climate change. This project will also contribute to the advancement of science by providing valuable information about vine cultivation.
