Renowned wine expert Matthew Horkey, with over 10 years of experience as a writer, educator, consultant, and content creator, visited Chile for the first time to deepen his knowledge of the country’s wine origins and wines.

Known for his influential YouTube channel Dr. Matthew Horkey and for serving as a judge at various international wine competitions, Matthew Horkey is currently in Chile to explore the famed Maipo Valley and discover the latest developments from Chilean wineries. 

On this occasion, he visited Viña Don Melchor to learn more about the story behind the world’s No. 1 wine. The experience began at the Don Melchor Vineyard, located in the acclaimed Puente Alto appellation, where winemaker Isabel Mitarakis introduced him to the unique qualities of this exceptional terroir, nestled at the foot of the majestic Andes Mountains. 

There, he discovered the innovative Sundial Vineyard project, which aims to address the challenges of climate change, and gathered valuable information for more efficient management of the old vineyard and future plantings. 

Later, he headed to Pirque to take part in an in-depth tasting of the three vineyard parcels of Viña Don Melchor, along with the new 2022 vintage of the winery’s iconic Cabernet Sauvignon. 

Without a doubt, it was a special day for Matthew Horkey, who just a few months ago published on his YouTube channel the video titled “2021 Wine Experience: Presenting Wine Spectator’s 2020 Wine of the Year”, in which he tasted the award-winning 2021 vintage of Don Melchor.
