As part of the global “Don Melchor Top of the World” roadshow, Enrique Tirado, CEO and Technical Director of Viña Don Melchor, traveled to Europe to meet with specialized press and clients in the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Norway.
During his visit to London, he personally presented the 2022 vintage of Puente Alto’s iconic Cabernet Sauvignon, Don Melchor, to the renowned wine critic and Master of Wine, Jancis Robinson, who awarded it an extraordinary score of 18 points.
The 2022 vintage of Don Melchor was described by the Master of Wine as a wine with:
“Heady nose that somehow suggests sweet ink. Round, smooth texture and with a sweeter start than I remember the remarkable 2021 but then it resolved into something a bit more savoury with stony sensations on the finish. Very supple tannins.”

Enrique Tirado also presented DM/01, 2022 vintage, the first wine in Viña Don Melchor’s new “The Parcel” Series, which received an impressive 16.5+ points and was described as a wine: “Very deep, dark, glowing crimson. Red-fruit and pencil-shavings aromas. Notably sweet start and very gentle tannins. Extremely round-textured until a little chewiness on the end at this stage.”
These outstanding scores reflect the exceptional potential of the Don Melchor Vineyard, located at the foothills of the Andes Mountains. Jancis Robinson also highlighted the exceptional qualities of the Puente Alto appellation in her article “Chile now a fine wine producer”, published a few months ago on her website:
“Wine districts such as Pirque close to the capital Santiago are especially good at growing Cabernet, thanks to gravel deposits from the River Maipo, cooling breezes and the proximity of the Andes. Puente Alto between the expanding suburbs and the mountains is the Pauillac of Chile.”
With these recognitions, Viña Don Melchor reaffirms its leadership and commitment to excellence in producing world-class wines, consolidating a history of excellence.
