During his recent visit to the city of Bogotá, Colombia, Viña Don Melchor CEO and technical director Enrique Tirado led industry leaders from different countries in the region in an exclusive event focused on the unique character of the Puente Alto denomination of origin, one of the most widely acclaimed appellations in the world.
With his presentation of the 2020 Don Melchor and a preview of the 2021 vintage (its 35th), Enrique showed the unique personality and character of the Puente Alto terroir, which is determined by its stony soils, the influence of the Andes Mountains, and the meticulous work done in the vineyard to achieve, year after year, a wine that situates it among the best Cabernet Sauvignons in the world.
The winemaker describes the 2020 vintage of Don Melchor (now available in the market) as a wine that “offers a smooth attack and later shows more potency and textures in its flavors. It has liveliness and great persistence and stands out with a long finish dominated by the elegance and red fruit of the Cabernet Sauvignon from the Don Melchor Vineyard at the foot of the Andes Mountains in the Puente Alto D.O.”
According to Enrique Tirado, “the opportune harvest of the 2020 vintage allowed us to have wines of excellent quality. Wines with very good concentration and ripeness that maintain the freshness and liveliness of the different parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon. Balanced and energetic wines with refined textures and full of different expressions of aromas and flavors that allowed us to create a great 2020 Don Melchor.”
