The renowned US publication awarded outstanding scores to Viña Don Melchor’s wines in its first in-depth coverage of Chile, highlighting the potential of Maipo Andes, and particularly Puente Alto, as one of the world’s leading origins for premium Cabernet Sauvignon.

Following the recent visit to Chile by Virginie Boone, senior editor at Jeb Dunnuck and responsible for wine coverage across California, Spain and South America, the prestigious US publication recognised Viña Don Melchor’s portfolio with notable accolades, strengthening the brand’s international projection and reinforcing Puente Alto’s position as one of Chile’s most significant origins for premium Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines.

During her visit to Chile in April, Virginie Boone toured the Don Melchor vineyard, located in Puente Alto, gaining deeper insight into the exceptional characteristics of this origin, set at the foothills of the Andes Mountains. She later visited Casa Don Melchor, where she tasted a selection of vintages of Don Melchor, as well as its new “The Parcel” series.

Following this experience, Boone published the report “A First Look at the Wines of Chile”, where she shared key comments and scores for Viña Don Melchor’s portfolio.

Among the most notable recognitions, the 2021 and 2022 vintages of Don Melchor —the iconic Cabernet Sauvignon from Puente Alto— both received 97 points, while the 2023 vintage achieved an outstanding 98 points, placing it among the highest-rated wines in the report.

Meanwhile, Don Melchor DM/01 vintage 2022 received 97 points, underscoring the portfolio’s consistency and precision in expressing its origin.

In addition, when referring to the potential of Chilean wines and their leading terroirs, Virginie Boone highlighted the quality achieved in regions such as Maipo Andes, reinforcing the recognition of this origin as one of the most distinguished for world-class wines.

This new report on Chilean wines —the publication’s first dedicated exclusively to Chile— represents a key opportunity to strengthen Viña Don Melchor’s international presence in one of the most influential specialised media outlets in the US market, while consolidating Puente Alto as an exceptional origin for world-class Cabernet Sauvignon.
