Located in Pirque, just 45 minutes from Santiago, Casa Don Melchor stands as a reference of Chile’s wine heritage. Declared National Historic Monument in 1971, this iconic estate preserves over 150 years of history, culture and tradition, establishing itself as a unique symbol of Chilean viticulture.
Family Residence to Cultural Heritage
Built in 1875 by request of Melchor Concha y Toro for his wife, Emiliana Subercaseaux, the property was originally conceived as a family residence and summer retreat in Pirque. Over time, it evolved from a private home into a site of significant historical and cultural value.

Designed by German architect Teodoro Burchard, the estate blends Italian neoclassical influences with elements characteristic of traditional Chilean manor houses. Wide corridors, adobe walls, and elegant front porticos define a refined and timeless architecture that preserves the spirit of its era, earning its designation as a National Historic Monument in 1971.
The surrounding park is an integral part of this heritage site. Designed in 1883 by French landscape architect Guillermo Renner, it combines the elegance of the French formal garden with the natural character of English landscape design, creating one of Chile’s most distinguished historic gardens. Its 22 hectares were declared a National Historic Monument alongside the house in 1971, reinforcing its status as a landmark of Chilean wine tradition.
The property remained within the Concha Subercaseaux family for several generations before being acquired by Viña Concha y Toro in 1993. A meticulous restoration followed, preserving the original structure and recovering key decorative and functional elements, ensuring the house’s legacy and spirit endure.
Today, Casa Don Melchor has become a leading icon of luxury wine tourism, offering exclusive experiences in an extraordinary setting—where history, architecture and excellence come together to give life to Don Melchor, the iconic Cabernet Sauvignon of Puente Alto.
