In the heart of Pirque, Casa Don Melchor represents a meeting point that blends sophistication, tradition, architecture, culture, and winemaking. With more than a century of history, this exclusive site preserves the legacy of a family that contributed to Chile’s political and cultural development, a legacy that is now part of the country’s winemaking heritage.
From Family Residence to Cultural Legacy
Built in 1875 by Melchor Concha y Toro for his wife, Emiliana Subercaseaux, on the “El Llano” plot of the former Santa Rita Estate, Casa Don Melchor we initially intended as a permanent residence in Pirque. Over time, it became more than just a family home, evolving into a symbol of national heritage. In 1971, it was officially declared a National Historic Monument, in recognition of its architectural and cultural value.
Architectural Elegance and Iconic Gardens
With more than 4,000 square meters of constructed space, high ceilings, and 22 rooms, Casa Don Melchor stands out for its elegant and understated architecture. The house was built raised off the ground to avoid soil humidity and combines Italian influences with the classical style of 19th-century Chilean rural estates. Its halls once displayed works by artists such as Monvoisin, Lambert, and Subercaseaux; some of which are now held in private collections or displayed in museums.
Surrounding the house is a 22-hectare park, designed by French landscape architect Guillaume Renner. Inspired by both French and English garden styles, Renner envisioned “an open-air museum” with ornamental avenues, winding paths, water features, and a rich variety of century-old trees stretching all the way to the Maipo River. This natural setting not only complements Casa Don Melchor’s architecture but offers a truly unique scenic experience.
Today, the Concha y Toro Park is maintained by renowned Chilean landscape architect Juan Grimm, who has led its restoration since 2016 — reviving its original spirit and highlighting its historical and botanical significance.
An Icon of Chilean Winemaking legacy
Casa Don Melchor, remained in the hands of the Concha Subercaseaux family for several generations until 1993, when it was acquired by Viña Concha y Toro. This marked the beginning of a careful restoration process that respected the original structure and brought back key decorative and functional elements.
Today, Casa Don Melchor stands as an icon of high-end wine tourism, offering personalized experiences in a heritage setting unlike any other. A visit through its halls is an invitation to relive its history, admire the delicately restored architecture, and discover the excellence behind the iconic Cabernet Sauvignon: Don Melchor.
If you’re looking for an exclusive, memorable, and history-rich wine experience, we invite you to discover Casa Don Melchor.
