The prestigious American publication Wine Spectator has awarded a new recognition to the 2022 vintage of the iconic Puente Alto Cabernet Sauvignon, Don Melchor.

Recently, Wine Spectator, one of the world’s leading specialized media outlets, announced two new accomplishments for the 2022 vintage of Don Melchor. This wine, made up of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 1% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot, earned an outstanding 95 points and was described by the magazine’s senior editor, Aaron Romano, as:

“Elegant, nuanced and concentrated, with a loamy-clay cast to the fresh thyme and subtle tuberose aromas, which give way to a rich yet balanced core of blackberry and cassis notes lifted by saline-edged acidity. Wonderfully fresh while moving toward the finish, where the flavors come together and linger harmoniously around well-formed tannins.”

Additionally, Don Melchor 2022 was included in the exclusive ‘Collectibles’ list, a carefully curated selection by the Wine Spectator team. This list highlights wines with a promising future, which will improve with further aging in the bottle and have great potential to increase in value. In this edition, five other renowned labels were part of this select group, including Château Pichon Longueville Lalande Pauillac 2022, Château Cos-d’Estournel St.-Estèphe 2022, Château Léoville Las Cases St.-Julien 2022, Château d’Yquem Sauternes 2022, and San Giusto a Rentennano Sangiovese Toscana Percarlo 2020.

This recognition reaffirms Don Melchor’s winemaking consistency, as it continues to position itself as one of the most awarded and respected high-end Cabernet Sauvignons worldwide.
